Abusive partners often use their partner’s immigration status as an additional way to exert their power over them. Always remember: abuse is against the law regardless of your immigration status.

Some of the ways a partner might abuse an immigrant are:

  • Isolating their partner from people in their home country
  • Preventing their partner from learning English
  • Threatening their partner with deportation
  • Threatening to destroy important legal documents
  • Lying about filing immigration papers
  • Threatening to hurt or take children away

If you or someone you know is an immigrant experiencing sexual or family violence, call us. We can help. Click here to find out more about immigrants and abuse.
